🌐 Linux Free Masterclass (Episode 7): Basic Commands (mkdir, rmdir, and touch)
How do you instantly create files and folders in the Linux terminal without ever right-clicking or using a mouse? Through essential creation and deletion commands.
Here are the key points from Episode 7:
🔹 1. The touch Command (Creating Empty Files)
Purpose: Instantly creates one or multiple empty files.
Usage: Typing touch notes.txt generates a new file named notes.txt. You can also create multiple files at once by spacing them out, like touch file1.txt file2.txt file3.txt.
🔹 2. The mkdir Command & -p Flag (Creating Directories)
Purpose: Creates new folders or directories.
Advanced -p Flag: Allows you to create nested directory trees in a single command (e.g., mkdir -p Level1/Level2/Level3 builds the entire folder chain instantly).
🔹 3. The rmdir Command (Removing Empty Folders)
Purpose: Deletes directories that are completely empty.
Note: If a folder contains files inside it, rmdir will throw an error, protecting you from accidental data loss.
🚀 Think of these commands like an organized workspace: touch is sliding a fresh blank sheet of paper onto your desk, mkdir is building a brand-new storage drawer, and rmdir is tossing out an empty drawer you no longer need!
