Have you ever needed to edit a graphic but only had the flattened export? The original design file is gone, and every element is baked into a single PNG. Magic Layers (https://magiclayers.net/) is a small AI tool that attacks exactly this problem: you upload one flat image, and it separates the content back into individual transparent layers you can download and edit.
How it works
The workflow is straightforward:
- Upload one PNG or JPEG (up to 10 MB, at least 512×512 pixels; larger images are resized automatically).
- Choose how many layers you want back — a target of 2 to 15 output images.
- Optionally describe what you want separated (for example, "pull the headline and the logo out").
The tool returns a base image plus transparent PNG layers, and each layer comes with a name, a description, its position, and its stacking order from the original image. You can preview everything, download individual layers, or export the whole result as a layered PSD for Photoshop, Figma, Canva, slide decks, or game engines.
Jobs can keep running in the background, and results are managed from a My tasks page, so you don't have to keep the tab open.
Where it's useful
A few scenarios I can think of:
- Recovering flexibility from old exports. The source file is lost, but you need to restyle or rearrange parts of a banner or illustration.
- Breaking down a hero image so the subject, decorations, and background can be animated or repositioned separately.
- Extracting text and decorations from a marketing graphic to reuse in a new layout.
Honest limitations
This is inference from pixels, not magic reconstruction. The exported PSD is a new raster composition — it does not recover original fonts, editable text, vectors, or effects. Some layers may need manual cleanup or repositioning after separation, so it's worth reviewing the generated output before using it in production.
Pricing
Pricing is credit-based: each output image costs 20 credits (including the base image), and you're only billed for images actually returned. One-time credit packs are listed at $2 for 100 credits, $5 for 600, $17 for 2,200, $39 for 5,200, and $69 for 10,000. Credits don't expire, failed jobs aren't charged, and PSD export uses existing results without extra credits.
