The scope of digital marketing in Nepal is real, but the first job is smaller than most guides make it sound. A junior mostly posts content, answers comments, checks numbers in free Google tools, and writes a short report for the person who controls the budget.
That is not bad news. The junior who can explain those numbers is the one who gets trusted with ads and clients. So judge this field by the week you will actually work, not by a list of job titles.
What do the scope guides leave out?
Most articles on the scope of digital marketing in Nepal list roles: SEO specialist, social media manager, content writer, ads specialist, manager. They point to growing internet use and to businesses moving online. Some add pay ranges with no source.
What they rarely show is the work itself. One popular guide names almost no software at all. Another says freshers start as interns or junior assistants who manage social media pages, post content and do basic keyword research. That line is the most honest one, and it is where you will start too.
We wrote earlier about why demand for digital marketing in Nepal is growing. This piece is about what the job looks like once you have it.
What does a junior digital marketer in Nepal do each week?
Read junior posts on merojob, LinkedIn or JobsNepal and the same duties repeat. Manage social media accounts. Create content. Analyze marketing data. Improve campaigns based on how they perform. Basic SEO knowledge shows up as a requirement again and again, and some posts name Google Analytics and Search Console directly.
Put those duties on a calendar and a normal week looks something like this:
- Monday: pull last week's numbers and write a one page report. What went up, what went down, and one guess why.
- Tuesday and Wednesday: plan and make posts for the content calendar, often in Canva, with an AI tool for a first draft of captions. Then fix the parts that sound wrong.
- Thursday: small SEO work on the website. Rewrite page titles, fix a broken link, add alt text to images.
- Friday: check the ads. Pause what costs money and brings nothing, and ask your senior before you raise any budget.
Through all of that, you answer comments and messages, because many businesses in Nepal take inquiries through their Facebook page.
Which tools will you use every week?
Two free Google tools sit under most of this work. Both run in a browser, so an old laptop is enough.
Google Search Console shows how a website appears in Google Search. Its Performance report gives four numbers: clicks, impressions, CTR (click-through rate, which is clicks divided by impressions) and average position. It also shows the real search words people typed. Google's help page defines each one in a line or two.
Google Analytics 4 shows what people do after they land on the site. It is free. Google's setup guide walks you through creating a property, adding your site and pasting one tag. The first visits can take up to 30 minutes to show in the Realtime report.
Next to those, you will open Canva, the Facebook and Instagram ad tools, WordPress, and an AI writing tool. The tools change every year. Reading numbers does not.
The boring parts nobody puts in the job post
Reports take more time than you expect. Every week someone asks why reach dropped, and "the algorithm changed" is not an answer they accept.
Designs come back for changes. A post waits for a manager to approve it. A broken link on the website stays broken until you notice it. None of this is exciting, and all of it is the job. If you like finding one small fix in a page of numbers, you will do well here.
Our view: learn to read numbers before you learn to make reels
It is tempting to start with reels and design, because that is the part of marketing you see. We would start with Search Console and Analytics instead. Anyone can post. Fewer people can look at last week and say, "Impressions went up but clicks fell, so our title is weak, and here is the new one."
That one skill moves a junior from posting to running campaigns. It is also what a small business client pays a freelancer for.
Try this tonight, free
Read Google's SEO Starter Guide. Then open the website of any small business you know in Kathmandu. Look at the titles of three pages in your browser tab. Write a better title for each one: unique to the page, clear, and with the words a customer would search.
If you have your own site, even a free one, add it to Search Console. After a few days you will see your first real search queries. Reading them is the first task of the job.
How we teach this at Saarathi Academy
Saarathi Academy in Old Baneshwor, Kathmandu teaches Digital Marketing with AI in person and online, with up to 10 students in the classroom per batch. Our mentors still do the work they teach. SEO is the spine of Weeks 3 to 5, built on a WordPress website you publish in Week 4. Tracking and Meta ads get one full week, and Google ads get the next.
Your campaign goes live in Week 7, so in Week 8 you report on real data, using a small ad budget we give you to test with. You use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Canva AI every week, and learn to judge what they produce.
The full week by week plan is in the syllabus, and the course page has everything else.
