"Descript or Cleanvoice?" sounds like a question about which one cleans a podcast better. It usually isn't. It's a question about whether the mess is the story, or the noise inside a take you already locked. Both can remove filler. They don't put the same thing back in your hands afterwards.
This is a short version of our guide, Descript vs Cleanvoice. It only uses the rankings we've already published. There are no prices or quality scores here, on purpose. Check each vendor's pricing page before you pay.
The short version
On our Best for Podcast Editing list the order is Descript, then Riverside, then Auphonic, then Cleanvoice.
- "Edit the episode by editing the transcript." Use Descript.
- "Hand cleaned cuts back to another editor's timeline." Use Cleanvoice.
- "Record the session first, then edit." Use Riverside (not this pair).
- "Fix loudness after the story is locked." Use Auphonic (not this pair).
Descript: when the edit is still open
Descript is first. Podcasting on its site is multitrack audio that behaves like editing text. Transcription is automatic. You delete a word and the audio under that word goes with it. Studio Sound and Remove Filler Words sit in the same family. You can also record, make clips, add captions, and treat the project as video. The rank is not "best noise reduction." The rank is the edit.
Leave it when another editor has to see the cuts on their own timeline (that's Cleanvoice), or when you still need to record the session (that's Riverside).
Cleanvoice: when cleanup is the handoff
Cleanvoice is fourth, and that's a different job, not a weaker Descript. It cleans a take and can hand a timeline back to a different editor. Use it when the story is already decided and the problem is the mess inside the file.
Leave it when you're still deciding what stays by editing the transcript (that's Descript).
Nearby cuts
The edit-versus-loudness cut is Descript vs Auphonic. The recording-versus-edit comparison is Descript vs Riverside. Loudness against this cleanup is Auphonic vs Cleanvoice.
The one rule
Decide whether you're still cutting the story, or cleaning a take for someone else's timeline, before you open either tab. The full breakdown, plus Cleanvoice alternatives and the job-first Best AI podcast editor, is on our Descript vs Cleanvoice guide.
