Hey DEV community! 👋

I've been working on an open-source project called EveryOS, and I'd love to share it with you.

If you've ever managed a home server, you probably know how quickly things can get complicated. Docker containers, system services, file management, monitoring, backups, and multiple dashboards just to keep everything running.

I wanted to bring all of that together into something simpler, more intuitive, and enjoyable to use.

That's why I started building EveryOS.

🖥️ What is EveryOS?

EveryOS is a free, open-source, self-hosted web interface that turns your existing Linux server into a desktop-like management environment.

It's not a new operating system, and it doesn't stream a remote desktop. It runs directly on top of your existing Linux installation and gives you a familiar graphical workspace through your browser.

Think of the convenience of a desktop operating system, combined with the flexibility of Linux and self-hosting.

✨ What can it do?

Here are some of the features I've been working on:

Desktop-like experience: Draggable, resizable windows, virtual desktops, widgets, themes, and customizable wallpapers.

Docker management: Manage containers, applications, and supported Docker Compose projects.

Built-in App Store: Discover and install self-hosted applications from supported catalogs.

File manager: Browse files, manage folders, work with external drives, and access your server's filesystem with appropriate permissions.

Linux system management: Monitor CPU, RAM, disks, network activity, systemd services, logs, and package updates.

Integrated terminal: Access a real Linux shell directly from your browser.

Backups and recovery: Manage backups, restore data, and configure encrypted off-site storage.

Smart notifications: Receive system alerts through Telegram, ntfy, email, or webhooks.

Home Assistant integration: Access smart home devices and their states from your workspace.

AI assistant integrations: Connect local AI models and supported agents, including Ollama and Hermes Agent.

Remote access: Manage your server securely through solutions such as Tailscale.

And there's more I'm planning to build.

🔧 Built for Real Linux Servers

EveryOS runs on existing Debian, Ubuntu, and compatible Linux systems, with support for both ARM64 and AMD64 architectures.

Whether you're using a Raspberry Pi, a mini PC, or a dedicated home server, the goal is the same: make server management more accessible without taking away the power of Linux.

Under the hood, the project uses React, TypeScript, Hono, SQLite, and a separate system agent for privileged operations.

🔓 Open Source and Community Driven

EveryOS is available under the MIT license.

I'm building it because I believe self-hosting should be powerful without being unnecessarily complicated.

There are already great projects in this space, including CasaOS and ZimaOS. My goal isn't simply to recreate them, but to explore what happens when server management feels more like using a complete desktop environment.

The project is still evolving, and community feedback is an important part of that process.

You can find installation instructions, documentation, screenshots, and the source code in the repository.

If you're interested in Linux, homelabs, Docker, or self-hosting, I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

What features would make a tool like this genuinely useful in your own setup?

And if you find the project interesting, consider giving it a ⭐ on GitHub. It helps more people discover the project.
