I Built a 74-Tool Apple Music MCP Server for Claude & Cursor (Autonomous DJ, Spotify Importer & AirPlay)

What if your AI coding assistant or desktop agent could actually control your music like a pro DJ while you work?
I built mcp-applemusic, an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server written in Python with FastMCP that gives Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other AI agents complete, native control over Apple Music on macOS.
It features 74 tools spanning playback, playlist engineering, listening analytics, Spotify conversion, smart DJ transitions, and multi-room audio.
Here is a look at what it does and how it was built.
The Key Superpowers
1. Autonomous Tokenless Background DJ Daemon
Prompting an LLM every 30 seconds to mix tracks is expensive and slow. Instead, the server can spawn an autonomous background daemon thread on your Mac:
0.00 tokens/sec: Runs 100% locally on your CPU with zero LLM API cost.
Look-Ahead Latency Compensation: Accounts for Apple Music's ~120ms CoreAudio engine buffer delay so drops land squarely on Beat 1.
Adaptive Styles: Harmonically matches tracks within ±5 BPM or escalates energy progressively.
2. Zero-Login Spotify Importer
Want to bring your favorite Spotify playlist over to Apple Music? Just hand Claude the public Spotify URL:
No Spotify Developer tokens or logins required.
Reconstructs the playlist track-by-track inside your Apple Music library using high-speed catalog lookups.
3. Multi-Room AirPlay Matrix
Controls multiple AirPlay speakers simultaneously with per-device volume levels (e.g. Living Room HomePod at 40%, Studio AirPods at 80%, with a master volume control).
4. Local Listening Journal & Replay Analytics
Maintains a local SQLite database that logs every track you play, generates monthly Apple Replay reports, and calculates your personal "listening personality" and skip patterns.
Quick Start (Try it in Claude Desktop or Cursor)
You can run it instantly using uv:
Claude Desktop Configuration (claude_desktop_config.json):
{
"mcpServers": {
"applemusic": {
"command": "uvx",
"args": [
"git+https://github.com/suleyman416/mcp-applemusic.git"
]
}
}
}
Example Prompts to try:
"Import this Spotify playlist into Apple Music: [spotify_url]"
"Start the Auto DJ in adaptive mode on my Hip-Hop playlist."
"Set my Living Room HomePod to 35% and my AirPods to 80%."
"Show my top played artists this month and generate my Replay summary."
🛠️ Open Source on GitHub
The project is 100% open source under the MIT License and was recently merged into the official Awesome MCP Servers directory.
