Meet Penguin, a Hermes plugin for finding shared meeting times across time zones.

The idea started with a real problem: coordinating meeting times with my hackathon teammates in different parts of the world. Before we could work together, we had to figure out when everyone could actually meet.

Then came a question: what time is it in Antarctica?

Antarctica has research stations operating on different time zones. That felt like the right place to put our scheduling headquarters. So we gave a penguin the job.

Welcome to the Antarctic control room

We designed an electric blue and white interface especially for Hermes. I wanted it to feel like stepping into the penguin’s Antarctic control room.

Drag one slider to compare local times, check working hours, find a shared slot, and copy a proposal to share with the group. The dot-pattern aurora changes with how many teammates can attend the full meeting. There’s optional music for your trip to Antarctica, too.

Our commander takes the job seriously: “Your time is under my command.”

Penguin proposes a time, but it doesn’t create a calendar event or send invitations. Finding a possible slot and having everyone agree to it are different steps.

From our scheduling problem to a Hermes plugin

Penguin is now listed in the Hermes Marketplace. Seeing something that began with our team’s scheduling problem become a plugin other people can discover was a very happy moment.

I built it with help from Astra, Murphy and Opus. The commander animation and voices use MiniMax-generated assets; the project retains the AI-generation notices and separate audio licensing information.

Try it yourself

Sometimes a video isn’t enough. I want to move the slider myself and see what happens.

We made a browser preview so you can try Penguin without installing Hermes. The first load downloads its runtime, so it may take a moment. Preview data stays in the tab’s memory and is lost when you refresh.

The penguin is listening. 🐧
