My wife and I all digitizing ALL of my family's old VHS family videos, photo prints, negatives, and slides for archival. I would like to put up a family media server so everyone in the family can log in and enjoy the content.
I personally have Immich for my own photos and Jellyfin for my own movies / TV shows. I also host some memorable videos (like my wedding video) and simple phone recorded memories on Immich, and old videos I filmed and edited as a kid on Jellyfin. I kinda have a distinct purpose for each.
Since Immich and Jellyfin can host both photos and videos, and given my own experience with these solutions, I had kinda settled on one or both of these solutions for my family's archive. However, I don't know that I NEED both, and maybe there's a better solution than either.
I love that Immich has facial recognition and smart searching, but there's no official TV client and its UI isn't really optimized for easily scrolling through and streaming old family videos. I think Jellyfin would be perfect aside from the fact that it'd be so nice to just be able to pull up "all pictures of Uncle Joe" like Immich can do.
So, I think what I've settled on is utilizing Immich's external libraries feature to pull in all the pictures, and host both the photo albums and the videos on Jellyfin. But is there another solution I'm not thinking about? If you do something like this for your family, what do you do?
