Hey DEV Community! 👋
I'm excited to share a project I've been working on: PixelMiner.io. It is a web-based incremental mining game where players dig deep into a grid-based mine shaft to uncover rich ore veins and gems.
🎮 Gameplay & Core Features
I wanted to combine classic idle progression with an interactive grid layout:
- Interactive Grid: A dynamic field containing varying tiers of resources, from standard copper to rare glowing crystals.
- Tools & Abilities: Players can switch between single-target mining using an Iron Pick or clearing out sections using a Blast Bomb.
- Workshop Economy: A progression loop where resources are spent upgrading Pickaxe Power, expanding max Energy Packs, or unlocking Mine Carts for passive income.
- Daily Contracts: An in-game quest system that gives players focused objectives for extra rewards.
🛠️ The Tech Stack
To keep things lightweight and playable directly from a browser tab, I built the game using HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript. Progression state and tool levels are managed via LocalStorage so player data persists smoothly between sessions.
The biggest hurdle was balancing the procedural generation loop so that rarer nodes spawn reliably the deeper you descend, keeping the gameplay loop feeling rewarding.
I'd love to get your thoughts on the UI or game balance in the comments below! What tool or upgrade should I add to the workshop next?
