Five weeks ago I published 5 free Claude Code skills on GitHub (agent-skills-en, MIT, no paywall, no signup). To get them found, I submitted the repo to 6 awesome lists. Here is the scoreboard, with links, as of Nov 8.
The scoreboard
- sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills #1741 — MERGED on Oct 1. The only merge.
- ComposioHQ/awesome-claude-skills #2059 — OPEN since Oct 1, zero comments.
- heilcheng/awesome-agent-skills #541 — OPEN since Oct 1. It got a full review on Oct 4 (link checked, license checked, format checked, "LGTM") — and still isn't merged five weeks later.
- skillcreatorai/Awesome-Agent-Skills #18 — OPEN since Oct 1, zero comments.
- GetBindu/awesome-claude-code-and-skills #241 — CLOSED on Nov 7. The maintainer's reason: the list now only accepts entries whose repo has more than 10 stars. Mine has 1. "Feel free to reopen once the project crosses the threshold."
- uizze/awesome-agent-skills — couldn't submit at all; the repo is archived and read-only.
Also listed without a PR: skills.sh (all 5 skills), AI Agents Listing (live since Oct 1), Uneed (in the waiting line; the free publication slot is Feb 28, 2027).
What I take from this
- Awesome lists are slow and gated. Five weeks, six submissions, one merge. The three open PRs may still be reviewed — maintainers are volunteers — but nothing here happens fast.
- Stars are the gate now, and that's circular: you need distribution to get stars, and you need stars to get listed. GetBindu wants more than 10; another list I tried earlier wanted 60. At 1 star, submissions get closed, not queued.
- I did it in the wrong order. The useful sequence is probably: get the first 10–20 stars somewhere else first, then submit to the lists. A one-line PR with an LGTM still waits if nobody is watching the queue.
- The non-PR listings were the reliable part: skills.sh and AI Agents Listing took the repo without a star test, and Uneed queued it (slowly — February).
What happens next
The pack stays free. I'll reopen the GetBindu PR if the repo crosses 10 stars, and the three open PRs stay open. No re-submissions, no bumping threads.
